HORT IN KURZ UND KNAPP		HORT IN JUST OVER 100 WORDS
Gegründet wurde der HORT 1994 von Eike König. Damals noch EIKES GRAFISCHER HORT. HORT war schon immer das, was der Name sagt: eine Art großer und bunter Spielplatz. Ein Ort ohne Begrenzungen, mit absoluter Offenheit, großem Vertrauen und allen Möglichkeiten. Ein unkonventioneller Ort, um zu gestalten - der alles zuläßt und alles fordert. Was am Anfang mit Arbeiten für die Musik-Industrie begann, hat sich zu einem multi-disziplinären Design-Studio entwickelt, das international für große wie kleine Kunden arbeitet. Egal wie bekannt der HORT mittlerweile ist, er ist immer noch (und wird es immer sein) ein Ort, an dem man lernen kann und soll. Ein Ort, der Inspiration aus allem und jedem zieht, der ständig in Bewegung ist, sich verändert und wächst. √		HORT began its inhabitance back in 1994, under the previous stage name of EIKES GRAFISCHER HORT. Who the hell is Eike? Eike is the creator of HORT. HORT - a direct translation of the studio's mission. A creative playground. A place where 'work and play' can be said in the same sentence. An unconventional working environment. Once a household name in the music industry. Now, a multi-disciplinary creative hub. Not just a studio space, but an institution devoted to making ideas come to life. A place to learn, a place to grow, and a place that is still growing. Not a client execution tool. HORT has been known to draw inspiration from things other than design. √

HORT ARBEITET		HORT'S WORK
Wir zeigen unsere Projekte hier, weil wir die ganze Bandbreite unserer Arbeiten, unseres Könnens und alles, was wir in den letzten Jahren geschaffen haben, draußen sichtbar machen möchten. Was immer gestalterisch entstehen könnte, entsteht im HORT. Alles findet hier Raum. Ob es dann Illustrationen für Magazine wie WALLPAPER* oder die NEW YORK TIMES oder Interior-Design für das PROJECT FOX für Volkswagen, Corporates und große Konzepte für internationale Kunden wie NIKE oder UNIVERSAL MUSIC oder visuelle Konzepte für kleine, spannende Labels wie GET PHYSICAL MUSIC sind. Wir lieben es, auf Projekten zu arbeiten, die den Menschen helfen, Informationen einfacher zu verstehen. Wir lieben es, für Unternehmen oder Unternehmungen zu arbeiten, die noch ganz am Anfang stehen und sich finden müssen. Wir lieben es, eine Marke oder ein Produkt mit zu gestalten und zu entwickeln und in der Welt sichtbar zu machen. Wir lieben es immer noch, Platten-Cover zu gestalten, die mehr sind als einfach nur Platten-Cover. Wir lieben es, Projekte selbst zu initiieren und ins Leben zu rufen. Und wir lieben es, mit und für andere Menschen in anderen kreativen Bereichen zusammenzuarbeiten, uns auszutauschen und noch viel mehr zu lernen. √		It is encouraged that you don't see the work displayed on this website as a library of ideas and visual styles to pick and choose from, but a showcase of our capabilities and achievements. HORT are willing to give most things a go. I mean how are you supposed to learn if you don't try. Right? Whether it's an illustration for WALLPAPER* or THE NEW YORK TIMES; creating an interior hotel space for Volkswagens PROJECT FOX; working for the big guns i.e. NIKE and UNIVERSAL MUSIC; endeavoring with smaller companies like GET PHYSICAL MUSIC; or simply initiating something ourselves. We like to inform people creatively or in a way that makes information easier to understand; working for companies that are starting off and need some assistance in establishing themselves; illustrating a companies personality by developing a brand; creating a visual connection with some music and it's listener; translating the artwork of an album beyond its sleeve; working with or for people and companies in other creative fields. Whether it's a poster for a theatre company, a catalogue for an art exhibition or working collaboratively with people of other design disciplines. √

HORT MACHT WORKSHOPS		HORT DOES WORKSHOPS
Der HORT bietet außerdem Kreativ-Workshops an und hält Vorträge. Wenn wir bei Ihnen in der Agentur oder im Unternehmen vorbeikommen sollen, sollten Sie Folgendes vorher wissen: 1. Es gibt 2 Möglichkeiten, an unseren Workshops teilzunehmen: entweder Sie kommen zu uns oder wir zu Ihnen. 2. Wenn Sie zu wenig Leute für einen eigenen Workshop sind, haben sie die Möglichkeit, an einem öffentlichen teilzunehmen. Die Termine dafür kündigen wir immer aktuell auf der Webseite an. 3. Je kleiner die Gruppe ist desto besser. Wir wollen für jeden der Teilnehmer genügend Zeit für Feedback und innerhalb der Gruppe für Diskussionen haben. Daher empfehlen wir max. 10 Leute. 4. HORT Workshops sind für jeden - egal aus welchem Bereich der Gestaltung oder des Designs, egal aus welcher Agentur oder Institution oder auf welchem Level. 5. Es ist dabei ganz gut, die Gruppe zu mischen. So können alle voneinander und aus den unterschiedlichen Erfahrungen lernen. 6. Man lernt bei uns keine Kreativitätstechniken oder sonstigen standardisierten Dinge. Es geht uns um Austausch, um das Ausweiten von eigenen Grenzen, ums Ausbrechen aus der täglichen Arbeit und Routine. 7. KEINE MACs. Sie sollen bei uns in echt und nicht im virtuellen Raum arbeiten. Und vor allem anders als sonst. Wir benutzen daher verschiedenste Materialien und auf keinen Fall den Computer. 8. Die HORT Workshops dauern in der Regel 2 Tage. Wir finden, daß es wichtig ist, eine Nacht zu haben, in der man seine Ideen und Gedanken überschlafen kann. 9. Es gibt bei uns kein Richtig oder Falsch. Der Prozess im Workshop ist uns viel wichtiger als das Ergebnis. Would you like HORT to come and visit your agency or company? Here are some things you should know: 1. HORT Creative Workshops work in two ways. Either you come to us, or we come to you. 2. If you can't get a group together to do a workshop, we also do open workshops. Dates for open workshops are posted regularly on our website, so keep an eye out. 3. The smaller the group the better. We want everyone involved to be allocated enough time to receive critical feedback and have the opportunity to participate in discussion. A maximum of 10 people per workshop is recommended. 4. HORT Creative Workshops are for anyone, in any design discipline, position, profession, company or institute. 5. Don't forget to mix the groups up a little. More learning is gained when working with a body of people that all possess different skills and ways of thinking. 6. HORT Creative Workshops are not about learning standardized creative techniques. But more about exchange, exploring your own boundaries and breaking them, stepping out of your daily routine. 7. NO MACS ALLOWED. We want you to build a relationship with your work that is not virtual. We want you to have direct contact with the materials that you use and work with. We want to change the way you normally work. 8. HORT Creative Workshops run for 2 days. We think it's important that you have time to sleep on your ideas and come back fresh the next day. 9. PRAKTIKUM		INTERNSHIPS
Wenn Du Dich für ein Praktikum im HORT interessierst, gibt es hier ein paar Dinge, die Du wissen solltest, bevor Du uns Deine Bewerbung schickst: 1. Wir nehmen das Praktikum sehr ernst. Und Praktikanten sind ein wichtiger Bestandteil unseres Teams. Der HORT will Euch Raum und Möglichkeit geben zu wachsen. 2. Als Praktikant/in arbeitet Ihr mit uns an richtigen Aufträgen und gleichzeitig könnt Ihr eigene Projekte entwickeln und umsetzen. Auch das in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem HORT Team. 3. Ein Praktikum im HORT dauert mindestens 3 bis 6 Monate. 4. Praktikanten bekommen 300 Euro im Monat. 5. Ihr müsst Euch früh genug bewerben. Wir sind normalerweise auf ein Jahr im voraus ausgebucht. Und wir haben nur Platz für 2 Praktikanten (mehr geht leider nicht). 6. Vergewissert Euch bitte im Vorfeld, ob Euere Arbeiten tatsächlich zum HORT passen. Das ist uns wichtig - und sollte es Euch auch sein. 7. Selbst-initiierte Projekte, Skizzenbücher, Konzepte usw. finden wir viel spannender. √		If you're interested in doing an internship at HORT, here are a few things that you should probably know in advance: 1. Interns are very important members of team HORT. We value them as creative people, and want HORT to be a place for them to grow. 2. Interns will be integrated in regular daily HORT work. They will also be given opportunities, under the guidance of the HORT crew, to work on their own projects. 3. An internship at HORT usually lasts anywhere between three and six months. 4. Interns are paid a salary of 300 Euro a month. 5. Please ensure that you send you applications in early. There is a year long waiting list for internships and we take a maximum of two interns at one time. 6. Before you apply for an internship please review your work to see if it connects with what we do. This is really important for you and us. 7.
